Project 7: Screencast

Camtasia

The assignment was to learn how to make make a screencast using Camtasia.

CSAwesome Screencast

I used Camtasia to record and edit this screencast, which demonstrates how a student can access and complete a CSAwesome assignment that they access through a Canvas assignment.

I used Camtasia to make the title screen and applied the Smart Focus tool to the video, which worked in most cases. I added several call-outs to highlight when to control click and emphasize what they should be doing on the assignment -- actually reading and doing the work -- not just clicking like I was.

I used Camtasia to screencast for class several years ago, and it has evolved a lot since I have used it. I liked the Smart Focus tool a lot, although there were times that I wish I could have modified what it was focusing on. It is likely that exists, but I did not have time to explore more. It was really challenging to figure out what to show and say for this screencast, since I had limited time and wanted it to be better than most of my screencasts. I have gotten into the habit of doing things quickly, so it was good to slow down and plan this one to make sure I said the right things in the required length.
