Project 6: Digital Animation

Adobe Animate

The assignment was to learn how to make make an animation using Adobe Animate.

Logic Gate Animation

I used Adobe Animate to recreate an animation that I once saw that used light, walls, and doors to represent the OR and AND logic gates.

For this project, I first found the images of the light bulb and the eye. I then tried to find a way to create the light, which I ultimately created by drawing a yellow rectangle. In the original animation, the colors are more subtle. They did not translate well to the other formats. I created the OR scenario first and had the wall fly in; then I made the doors appear. I had to draw lines over the walls to make the light appear to go through the doors. For the AND scenario, I tried to reuse the wall and doors, which then seemed to cause chaos in the first animation, since it made the components move when I did not intend them to.

I found this project particularly challenging, as the different animations and transitions were difficult to time. I would make a change to one component, and as a result, other components would also change. I wanted the doors to disappear, but they moved instead. I also did not like that the original colors did not quite translate to the final version. It was also really difficult to narrate in 15 seconds. I feel like the animation (and the explanation) could have been much more effective given more time.

This was the first truly new tool to me, and I found it very frustrating. I can see where it would be useful over time, but I am very impressed by people who use these tools frequently. I learned a lot about the tool and how its various components can be put together. The timeline and interactions were very interesting, but I also struggled with getting them to work the way I wanted them to.
